Dr Appukutty (Kumar) Manickam’s Rehabilitation Medicine training was undertaken at tertiary teaching hospitals across Sydney, including Concord, St George and Liverpool Hospitals, and subacute hospitals such as Lady Davidson, Ryde, Calvary and Metro Rehabilitation Hospitals.

During this period, he concurrently commenced Basic Physician Training in 2021. He was admitted to the Fellowship of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) in 2022.

Dr Manickam’s interests are in pain management, acute stroke management, stroke & spinal injury rehabilitation, movement disorders and the applications of artificial intelligence in medicine.

He tailored his education towards this, having completed Rehabilitation Medicine, Master of Medicine (Surgery), surgical, critical care and radiology training. He worked in neurosurgery and intensive care units in Queensland for 6 years, published in various neurology & neurosurgical journals and presented in neurosurgical & radiology conferences. This training has provided expertise in Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Orthopedics and General Medicine. His aim is to provide holistic care by maximizing patient function and quality of life through a multidisciplinary pain program.

Dr Manickam currently divides his time between being a part-time Rehabilitation Staff Specialist at the Spinal Injuries Unit, Prince of Wales Hospital and Pain Medicine at Sydney Spine & Pain. He has been credentialed for consultation rights at Waratah Private, Westmead Private, Sydney Private and Northshore Private Hospitals and has visiting rights for inpatient consultations at Mt Wilga Private Rehabilitation Hospital. He also organizes the Australian Rehabilitation College Faculty training program for NSW.

Dr Manickam is a skilled & technician Chronic pain specialist who continues to be involved in educating and obtaining further qualifications in his felid of expertise.
